Misael - Cuban Dance Instructor

Misael teaching in La Tasca
Misael is from Santiago de Cuba. Growing up in a musical country where he was surrounded by Salsa music and dance, Misael learnt to dance as a child and later trained in singing, dance and acting at the Escuela de Instructores de Arte Pepito Tey, Santiago de Cuba. Since moving to the UK he has focused on teaching Salsa dancing, as well as DJing and dancing in Alain Hernandez's dance company "CUBAnia". He is keen to promote the Cuban style of Salsa and introduce people to Cuban music. His classes are relaxed yet serious and he enjoys seeing people improve their dancing.

Sabina dancing in Cardiff Town Centre! Sabina - Dance Instructor

I am from somewhere far less exotic...Coventry(!), UK. I trained in music (jazz piano) at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, and as part of my studies went on an exchange trip to Havana, Cuba, to study Cuban music. It was there that I discovered my love for dancing Cuban Salsa. I'd tried American Salsa styles before I left for Havana but the Salsa they were dancing in Havana to me was more exciting - it had a different energy to it. It made me desperate to learn how to do it! So I spent as much time as I could while in Cuba training in dance and continued on arriving back in the UK. Before long people were asking me to teach and perform with them.

I believe that everyone can improve their dancing with practice, and am a patient and encouraging teacher. In my teaching I draw upon 3 years' experience teaching music, and also on my Master's degree in Psychology of Education, from which I understand how to help people learn a motor skill (e.g. dance!) and develop confidence on the dancefloor.
